When you become a mother, you hear the phrase "It takes a village" frequently to describe raising children. Whether it's communicated as advice or perhaps to provide comfort, it neatly captures the impact created by a strong support system. Similarly to parenting and having children - running a business is the hard part of actually having a business.
There's a joke that owning a pet "fur baby" is the first step to couples becoming parents. Although it is definitely not the same thing as being a parent to a child, it really does teach you valuable lessons. A pet becomes part of your family and soon their little paws become a big part of your life.
In honour of #nationalpetday, this post is dedicated to everything our dog has taught us about the responsibilities and joys of being a parent. Although we now have children and she doesn't always get the same kind of attention she used to - she'll always be the first "baby" that came into our lives.
Before baby arrives - and this applies to whether or not it's your first or second+ child, have some fun with these unique date ideas. These are the kind of dates that will be tougher to do while baby is small and most likely - completely dependent on mom. There's so much focus on planning a babymoon - why not treat yourselves to some romance that's right in front of you?
Over the next few months, we will be tackling some big questions about adjusting finances, financial decisions and budget planning to account for the needs of a growing family. Here are some of the pieces we plan to explore:
- Unexpected costs of starting a family - Identifying family financial goals - Tips on adjusting to a new budget - How to plan a baby moon on a budget - The diaper decision: to reuse or not to reuse
The sleepless nights... The sheer exhaustion... The love you feel the first time they wrap their little fingers around yours...
You'll go from wondering how you'll get through the day to wondering how you could ever love someone so much. And as they grow up and you go from mama to mommy to mom - you'll wonder how time went by so fast.
